So The Wind Won't Blow It All Away
b. – d. working title
I hadn’t realised how intrigued I was with hands until the final sighting of my Mother’s hands and my first sight of new-born Stephanie’s hands. These two significant images prompted me to explore my fascination.
A portrait of a person, we are told, should be of the face, but to me (and reinforced by the poems Her Hands and With These Hands), a hand portrait can be just as expressive as the face.
I am presenting this as an idea, a starting point to accumulating a narrative of human life. This project is in the very early stages and I am looking forward to where it will take me.
On 4th and 6th November 2011, visitors to the gallery will be invited to have their hands photographed as part of my on-going research. The resulting images can be viewed on the gallery wall the following day.
